Botrytis strikes during cool, damp weather where air circulation is poor, and limited sunlight. On orchids, Botrytis cinerea causes unsightly brown spotting of blooms. The fungus usually affects Phalaenopsis and Cattleyas, but may be found in a wide range of orchid genera. Older flowers are more susceptible to infection. Although this disease doesn’t threaaten the life of your orchid, I consider to be a pitty to wait all year for flowers and then have them ruined by Botryris.
