Read all about it: https://jakewildwood.blogspot.com/202... A customer of mine sent this lovely bouzouki up here for work. I’m paraphrasing his description here, but suffice to say the maker was Petros Hanikian. He’s an Armenian-Greek builder and was apprenticed to a much more famous luthier, Onnik Tsakirian, who build instruments for high-profile bouzouki players. He’s done his research and thinks that, due to the phone number, this dates around 1965 or so. The builder died young and so he didn’t make a lot of instruments. That said, this one is clearly high-quality and built to a high spec. It sounds gorgeous, too, with that transparent, lingering, zzzrrring sound that’s hard to achieve. It was fussy, though! Work included regluing a bunch of celluloid and minor touch-ups, some freshening-up of the finish on the bowl and top, and a lot of heavy-handed work on the frets to get it to play correctly. Now that it’s done, I have to say I’m pretty impressed. I had to use lighter gauges than I wanted to to keep it healthy, but it doesn’t matter because the instrument responds so fast and aggressively you wouldn’t even know.
