In our first OCN (Ocean Conservation Namibia) Episode, we showed you all about Namib_Naude and how his seal rescues from plastic pollution with his Leatherman at Pelican Point near Walvis Bay and Swakopmund led to the non-profit organisation Ocean Conservation Namibia. Episode 02 of 100sealsfortime is a bit of "behind the scenes" take on what all goes into a seal rescue. Antoine explains how we prepare, execute and wrap up a seal rescue from start to finish. If you are new to our channel - ocean rubbish and plastic pollution is a massive problem in Namibia and the Skeleton Coast due to a very active fishing industry. Entanglements lead to animal cruelty. OCN regularly patrols the beaches to look for trapped animals, and hopefully we are able to either catch the seal by hand or with our custom built net, and cut them loose with our Leatherman tool. Our rescues are a small step towards a better world with more sustainability and less climate change.
