Eating disorders have become an accepted and encouraged part of our society. Eating disorders can be seen in many different forms: either not talked about, incredibly romanticized, or advertised as a way to control the uncontrollable. As a survivor of anorexia and bulimia, I have experienced this stigma first hand. There are many necessary steps to challenging our eating disorder culture, but the first one is to put this vital issue at the forefront of discussion. Sanna Legan is an activist artist, using social justice and her creative practice to make a difference. Her practice is focused around women’s rights, discussing issues such as eating disorders, abortion rights, cosmetic surgery, menstruation rights, and other injustices. For her work she has been a Young Arts Finalist, National Scholastic Winner, Instagram Ambassador, and United States Presidential Scholar. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
