The Terrifying Voay Of Madagascar

When European colonisers came to Madagascar they didn’t only find unique cultures, beautiful landscapes and fascinating organisms, they also found the remains of missing components of a once vibrant selection megafauna filled island. Being one of the most biodiverse and large islands on the planet Madagascar is no alien to strange reptiles. 0:00 Intro 1:04 The Voay 4:48 Outro 5:34 Credits The crocodile we are talking about today is named the ‘voay’ which in malagasy means crocodile, evolving sometime in the late pleistocene this crocodilian is particularly interesting for its survival as recently as 2000 years ago. Specimens of these animals are generally found in caves that are sometimes flooded, but we have little evidence on where colonisers discovered their remains. Unfortunately, no complete specimens of the Voay have been discovered meaning much of the animal is yet to be understood by palaeontologists. In this video I will use studies on the Voay to give a good overview of the fascinating life of this extinct prehistoric crocodile. Hope you enjoy.
