The aviation industry in India has emerged as one of the fastest growing industries in recent years. India is currently the third largest domestic civil aviation market in the world. It is expected to overtake UK to become the third largest air passenger market by 2024. But despite the significant growth, the aviation industry in the country is reeling under crisis. The second-largest airline Jet Airways is under severe financial distress due to which it has grounded as many as 78 planes and withdrawn close to 1,000 scheduled flights. The airline is now operating only 33% of its fleet. Other carriers - SpiceJet and IndiGo are also facing shortage of aircraft and pilots.
