Connelly Machine Works has been machining parts in the same location since 1946. What started as a small shop founded by a Navy machinist after World War II has grown into a 60-machine operation producing parts for aerospace, medical, and commercial industries. In this tour, Ian walks through the shop with Sean to see how they handle everything from high-temperature alloys like Inconel 718 and 625 to large forgings used in rocket fuel systems. Some of the material running through these machines can represent tens of thousands of dollars before a single chip is made, so every setup matters. What makes this shop interesting is the mix of old and new equipment — everything from decades-old machines still making money to modern DMG MORI machines cutting aerospace parts. The shop also builds many of its own fixtures in-house and keeps a strong focus on inspection and metrology to support demanding aerospace work.
