Thirty-eight-year-old Irene Lim chose to face fate with a smile. Born in Ipoh, Malaysia, she was working as a beautician in Singapore when, in October 2023, a sudden bacterial infection led to sepsis. Within just four days, her life was hanging by a thread. Doctors managed to save her with emergency vasopressor drugs, but because her blood flow was redirected to protect her vital organs, the tissues in her arms and legs became necrotic. To survive, she had no choice but to undergo quadruple amputation. Because of the sudden tragedy she went through, her story has touched many people across Singapore and Malaysia.
