Why did SciShow’s knitting video spark frustration?

Welcome! In this video, I’m sharing my perspective on the recent SciShow video about knitting. What I share here is simply that: my perspective. I know others may feel differently, and that’s absolutely valid. A number of viewers have asked if I’d share my thoughts on this, and while I know I don’t have to (there’s nothing requiring me to weigh in), I found myself curious about why this video caused such frustration for some knitters. In reflecting, I realized I shared some of those subtle irritations too. Not because the video was “wrong”...I’m fully aware of SciShow’s intended audience, and I am not it, but because I think it’s interesting to talk about how perception shifts when knitting meets science and explanation. I don’t believe Hank (or SciShow) did anything “wrong,” or that they owe knitters a certain kind of coverage. What I’m unpacking here is just why I think SOME knitters may have felt a little defensive after watching the SciShow video. This isn’t the only opinion out there, and it may not even match your own experience, and that’s okay.
