Ray Noble And His Orchestra play an appropriately hot version of "Brighter Than The Sun", the leader's own song (and arrangement), featuring a nice chorus of solo exchanges by Max Goldberg on muted trumpet and Harry Berly on viola, after Al Bowlly's excellent vocals. Max hardly gives Al a chance to finish before jumping in with a two bar intro to his solo, but his brio is appropriate for the number, and notice too how at the end of his two-part solo he slightly anticipates the sax section's short rhythmic phrases, which again adds to the rhythmic tension of this hot number. Harry Berly's lovely viola tone and unique approach to soloing put him in a class of its own. In the last chorus, the band takes off Icarus-like and, following a brief baritone sax outing by Ernest Ritte, returns to earth with a rather abrupt landing!
