Hiking the McKeldin Area on the Switchback and Rapids Trails - Patapsco Valley State Park

This hike takes place in the Patapsco Valley State Park west of Baltimore, Maryland. The goal of this hike is to complete the loop on the Switchback Trail and McKeldinRapids Trail and view the McKeldin Rapids. There is plenty of parking within the park, however, the park doesn’t open until 9. Outside the park, there is parking for 6 cars across from the Switchback trail access trail on Mariottsville Road at the intersection with Ridge Road. There is an additional parking area where Mariottsville Road crosses the South Branch of the Patapsco River (google Parking for Mckeldin Area). This trail is moderately easy to difficult class 1 trail. The Rounds Rock trailhead is located on Rockwell Rd. Maybe 10 parking spaces are available.
