Tie: University of Nottingham Alumni 00:34 - Cigar Properties: The La Flor de Cano Magicos Edición Regional España is a Spanish regional release that's reminiscent of the La Gloria Cubana Serie D N°5 that was released a few years ago. It consists of a 4.5 x 52 vitola and is available in boxes of 10 cigars. As a Cuban puro, there's very little information as to where the tobacco comes from apart from the country itself. The cigars have been sitting in a Boveda acrylic humidor at 69% RH for a few weeks to acclimate and were regularly monitored with a Boveda Butler. 02:13 - Look & Feel Overall, the La Flor de Cano Magicos is evenly constructed and has a firm spring. There are no particularly visible veins and the cigar gives off a healthy oily sheen. The cigar has a cinnamon stick shade of brown and gives aromas of cherries, raisins, tonka bean. 03:00 - Pre-Light The draw is quite open yet provides a slight bit of resistance but less than most Cuban cigars. In terms of aromas, it delivers cinnamon, dried earth, and barnyard. 03:21 - Palate During this video, CP was in the final third. Nevertheless, in the first, he experienced cinnamon, copper, and toasted pine cones. Meanwhile, the second third consisted of cherries, tonka bean, and cedar. Finally, the last third revealed notes of toasted cedar, darkish chocolate, and suede leather. The cigar offers a pleasant evolution and a discernable evolution. However, it's quite tart despite providing a balanced palate stimulation. 05:38 - Burn Quality In the final third, there were a few issues. However, CP admits that this was probably due to a few relights on his part. Otherwise, it offered a straight, razor sharp burn with some thickness. Similarly, the draw was excellent and provided just the amount of resistance that you'd need. Meanwhile, the cigar offers a cool smoke and the ash backbone has decent resistance, which means that you can grow a few short stacks. 06:24 - Overall Experience The Magicos features the old style of La Flor de Cano bands, which has a distinctive vintage or retro vibe. Furthermore, the box has a classic appearance with a stamped emblem and is made from cedar-lined plywood. In terms of value, a box of 10 cigars is 130€ or $140, which is a pretty good price given the experience. Finally, it's a versatile cigar that can be used for a variety of occasions or even just smoke at home for a moment of contemplation. 07:45 - Pairings No scores are attributed to pairings but they're a great exercise for according the cigar. In terms of meal, we would consider the Magicos with white meat such as a veal on a wood-fire barbecue. Alterntively, pretzels or praliné would both be excellent salty and sweet snacks respectively. As for drinks, we would suggested a lightly peated whisky such as Caol Ila or a Flor de Cana rum as it has a more noble and natural flavour than caramelised or vanilla-heavy alternatives like Diplomatico. Finally, a latte coffee would add an excellent creaminess to the cigar's flavour that would work well with the notes experienced in the final third. 09:25 - Final Scoring The La Flor de Cano Magicos has earned 79 out of 100 using the Bespoke Unit Cigar Formula. However, while this may sound like a low mark compared to other publications, it is actually in the high end of a 4-star review from us! Overall, the Magicos is an excellent cigar, pairs well with a number of dishes, has a nice evolution, and offers an overall pleasant experience if you only have a little bit of time for a cigar.
