The original White Castle (not the Burger Fast Food place). This mansion belonged to the White family in Winchendon, MASS. Kip Stowell filmed this footage which may be the only remaining documentation of the castle. White's Castle was demolished after the 1950s. Nelson D White was superintendent of his father's cotton factories. In 1843 when he came to Winchendon Srpings MA and established the Nelson Mills. In 1857 he erected a brick factory. He also built many tenement houses for his industrial community. Nelson had 7 children and one was named Joseph. Joseph Nelson White's home was known as Marchmont, built in 1887 from red sandstone. His father Nelson died a few years after it was built in 1889. Nelson's sons Joseph and Zadoc Long were appointed Trustees of his estate, along with the Hon. John D Long (uncle to Joseph and Zadoc). 'The White Brothers' ran 3 cotton mills in East Jaffrey NH and the Winchendon plant. In 1912 Percival and Richard White died from the sinking of the Titanic. They had been passengers and reportedly were last seen alive jumping together into the water.
