World Humanitarian Day 2024:

Video message by Rein Paulsen, Director, FAO Office of Emergencies and Resilience. Humanitarian workers are facing their most challenging year yet. In parallel, conflict and violence continue to drive acute hunger, pushing millions into a relentless cycle of suffering. Both civilians and the people trying to help them are facing a rising tide of violence. Food is increasingly weaponized, communities are starving and agricultural infrastructure is being damaged and destroyed. Peace is imperative. Without it, the Right to Food remains an empty promise for millions. UNSC Resolution 2417 condemns the weaponization of food and demands the protection of agrifood systems. Yet, violations and obstructions of human rights persist. Civilians and aid workers pay the ultimate price. This World Humanitarian Day, demand an end to these atrocities.
