As a longtime fan of the Budweiser tournament era and a dedicated collector of those original records, I’ve decided to launch a new series on this channel dedicated to recreating the spirit of the Budweiser competition. The idea is to imagine the artists who could have won if the tournament had continued — creating new fictional champions inspired by the sound, style, and energy of the early 80s. This project brings that era back to life through original concepts and artists built in the tradition of classic funk and boogie. Pulse 5 represents one of those imagined winners. During the Budcrest Showdown, representing KMJQ/Houston, the five-member vocal and dance group Pulse 5 captured audiences with tight harmonies and explosive choreography. They emerged as National Champions and introduced their winning single “Why Baby Why”, a pure slice of 1983 dancefloor boogie. Turn it up loud. Feel the groove.
