"I think that if you choose the career to be a Police Officer or EMS, Firefighter, Military, or any physically demanding career, you need to be fit... Not just for yourself but for your co-workers and for your community." -Michelle DiCapua FREE 10 Best Bodyweight Exercises of ALL-TIME http://www.criticalbench.com/bodyweight/ On today’s Strong By Design podcast show, Coach Chris sits down with Michelle DiCapua, Bikini competitor, CrossFitter and Police Officer. Michelle shares how being physically fit is essential for first responders. Whether it’s running after a suspect or performing CPR, your physical capabilities play a huge role in how you protect and serve your community. Tune in to hear Michelle’s tips on fitness for first responders. Some of the podcast episode: Michelle: [00:06:46] ....I'm not expecting anybody to go overboard with their fitness but just do cardio a couple times a week do some strength training so you can build muscle build your mental aspects so you know what your body is capable of you know that you can push past that limit so that if you are in a fight or a foot chase you don't just give up you know your body can keep going and that comes from going to the gym and being fit and knowing and just keep pushing yourself so that you get more endurance and you get more muscle and you build that mental strength. So, I would say to start with some cardio a few times a week do some strength training and just clean up your diet again you don't have to eat Super strict. You don't have to eat chicken vegetables six times a day like a bodybuilder. But if you're going to be working night shift which the majority of new people will be. Pack your lunch. So, you're not reaching for a sugary drink. So, you're not reaching for candy bars at 2:00 in the morning and when there's nothing open when it's hard to choose a restaurant because nothing's open at 2:00 3:00 in the morning if you don't want to pack your lunch you can still make healthy decisions you can still get eggs you can still get a salad. You could still get grilled chicken. Just eat healthy. Get to the gym a few times a week if you don't want to go to the gym get outside and run. There's plenty of body weight movements that you can do to gain muscle and to maintain your strength and just do that a few times a week.
