India-US Interim Pact Scraps Russia Oil Penalty; Slashes Tariffs, Including Zero Duty On Exports

India and the United States have released the framework of a long-awaited interim trade agreement. The 25% penalty linked to buying Russian oil has been removed. Tariffs have been cut from 50% to 18% on products including textiles, leather, footwear, plastic and rubber goods, organic chemicals, home decor, artisan goods and industrial equipment. Reciprocal tariffs have been reduced to zero on pharma, drugs, gems and diamonds, and aircraft parts. No concessions have been given on farm and dairy products. Under the framework, India will purchase U.S. goods worth $500 billion over the next five years.
