Taxonomy: the science of classifying Life

Science isn't all about the grand discoveries... it's also about developing systems and tools that allow us to make sense of the world, and, crucially, communicate about it. One of those tools is taxonomy: the classification systems that we use to describe the diversity of life. Unfortunately, we're kind-of stuck with a pre-evolutionary concept in Linnean taxonomy... but that has led to a parallel system in phylogenetic classification, through the Phylocode. This video looks at how these methods do what they do, and how assumptions in philosophy can make a mess out of the most interesting fossils... like the ones from the Cambrian Explosion.
