Beauvais Lyons: The Carousel Book

This video presents the carousel book form, which uses three layers of accordion books to create layers of fore-ground, middle-ground and background information. The carousel book lends itself to theatrical or diorama-like scenes, and explores the sculptural and architectural potential of books. The book demonstrated in this tutorial is made with the following sheets of 100 lb. cover weight paper (French Paper Constructiontone): 2 sheets 19 x 5 inches with .5 inch tabs on each end, 2 sheets 17 x 5 inches with .5 inch tabs on each end, and 2 sheets of 14.5 x 5 inches with a .5 inch tab on one end. Other supplies needed are an Xacto knife, a ruler, a bone folder and supplies to make your image on the paper.
