This dance portrays the movements of the Jalak Putih bird (Black-winged Starling). Unfortunately, this lovely bird is often caught in the wild and sold at various bird markets around the archipelago. It's actually critically endangered now due to habitat loss, changes in agriculture and hunting for the bird trade but that doesn't stop people trying to make money out of it. No, you will hunt it until it is extinct in the wild and the only thing left will be a whimsical dance and its images in paintings sold to tourists in Bali. Boycott bird markets!
