This week on Make Do Mechanics, we hit a major milestone in the Z20LET Vectra GSI conversion as I tackle the cylinder head overhaul. First up, I remove all the valves and re-cut the valve seats to ensure a proper seal and optimal performance. With the head sent off for a professional skim, it's soon ready to reunite with the freshly forged bottom end! After refitting the valves, I bolt the refurbished Z20LET cylinder head back on using a fresh head gasket and new head bolts, followed by fitting a brand-new water pump and cambelt kit. I take extra care to ensure both top and bottom ends are perfectly timed in unison — a crucial step before the engine comes to life. This episode marks a huge step forward in the project. With the internals now complete, we’re down to the final jobs: cleaning, painting, and prepping ancillaries before we drop this thing back into the Vectra GSI saloon.
