First public performance 27October 2003, Oji Hall, Tokyo in the presence of the composer. « Paris 1923 » , written in 2003, was commissioned by Dai Himeda. In 1923, the social thinker and revolutionary Sakae Osugi entered France illegally under a false Chinese name. He gave a May Day speech in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis and was immediately arrested. After being held in custody at the 'Prison de la Santé', he was deported and he returned to Japan. Later that year, soon after the Great Kanto Earthquake, Osugi and his wife and nephew were forcefully arrested and murdered. « Paris 1923 » is composed as a serie of eight different pieces, each dealing with an aspect of Osugi's period in Paris: 1.
