UDS LAW FACULTY HOLDS A PRACTICUM ORIENTATION FOR LEVEL 300 STUDENTS. The Faculty of Law at the University for Development Studies has organised a one-day orientation program for all Level 300 students to prepare them for their upcoming eight-week legal practicum attachment. The orientation, which took place on Saturday, 14th March 2026, was delivered by Dr. Sanka Mohammed, the Head of Department (HOD) of the Faculty of Law at UDS. The program was well attended by all Level 300 LLB students who will soon undertake their practicum in various legal and public institutions across the Upper East, North East, Northern, and Savannah Regions. Addressing the students, Dr. Sanka Mohammed explained that the eight-week practicum forms a crucial component of the legal training programme, designed to expose students to the practical workings of the legal profession beyond the classroom. Dr. Sanka indicated that the students will be attached to law firms, courts, corporate legal departments, public institutions, and other organisations with legal units. According to him, the attachment will enable students to gain hands-on experience in legal research, drafting of legal documents, client interactions, and observation of court proceedings. Dr. Sanka Mohammed further emphasised that the practicum is aimed at helping students develop professional ethics, discipline, and practical legal skills, which are essential for their future careers in the legal profession. The HOD also encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from practising lawyers and legal practitioners, adding that the experience would help bridge the gap between academic legal training and real-world legal practice. The Faculty Officer cautioned students to note that no one is a lawyer yet, so no one should carry themselves as such. We humbly appeal to you all to conduct yourselves professionally as you have been doing so daily here in your classroom engagements. Nuurdeen Aliu Esq., who is the Exams Officer of the Law Facility and a Lecturer with the Faculty, advised the students to conduct themselves with integrity, professionalism, and dedication during the attachment period, noting that they will be representing both themselves and the Faculty of Law of the University for Development Studies. Some students who attended the orientation expressed appreciation to the faculty for organising the program. Speaking on behalf of the students, Rev. Solomon Nachin-Naa, a Level 300 student of the Faculty of Law, who doubles as the Founder of both the Scarlet International Academy, and Life Tabernacle Church all in Tamale, as well as being the vice chairman of the Majority Caucus, alongside the owner of Kassi pure water ltd etc, commended the HOD and the entire faculty management for the insightful orientation. He noted that the program had given students a clear understanding of what is expected of them during the practicum and how they can maximise the opportunity to gain practical legal experience. Mr. Mutala Mohammed Tahiru, the PRO of the Law faculty students' Association, in an interview, assured the faculty that students would uphold the values and reputation of the university throughout the practicum period. This eight-week legal practicum, part of the Level 300 law requirements, is expected to enhance our practical exposure and professional development as we prepare for future legal practice.
