Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu provides an update on a shooting at 6909 Ashcroft. Preliminary information: At 5:06 am on Sunday, October 26th, HPD received a hospital check call. Two people stated they had been shot at a bar at 6916 Rampart. Officers went to that address and found nothing out of order. At 5:59 am, HPD received another call about a shooting at 6909 Ashcroft. Officers arrived to find two people shot: one critically injured and the second, deceased. HFD arrived and transported the injured person to the hospital. UPDATE 10-28-25 8:28 AM: Charges have been filed against a suspect, Mainor Omar Matamoros Nataren, 30, in the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of two others at 6909 Ashcroft Drive at about 5:55 a.m. on Sunday, October 26. The suspect is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 482nd Criminal District Court. The identity of the deceased male, 18, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Two additional males were injured. HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a two shooting victims at an area hospital who had been transported via private vehicle. Officers then searched the area where the victims were believed to have been transported from but found no additional victims. Approximately an hour later, officers responded to a shooting at 6909 Ashcroft, which was several blocks away from the address that was originally searched. Officers discovered an unresponsive male in the doorway of an abandoned, unmarked, and unlicensed after-hours club in the strip center. A second male was located on the sidewalk. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the first male deceased and transported the second male in critical condition. Detectives learned the shooting occurred after an argument inside the establishment on Ashcroft in the 4 a.m. hour. After the shooting, everyone at the club fled, leaving the two males behind without calling for help. Investigators determined Matamoros Nataren, who was hospitalized with at least one gunshot wound, was the suspect in this incident. Detectives consulted the Harris County District Attorney's Office and Matamoros Nataren was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
