SWORDS DO GO SHING (it's all about context) Most every Titan of the Sword Community says that this sound isn't possible, or can only be done with something like a 19th century cavalry saber, but today I'd like to prove them wrong! In this video I'll explain that it is not only possible to get this sound when drawing a sword, but also - that when used in the correct historical contexts it absolutely should be used, and that the origins of this trope probably go back thousands of years. A few videos ago I had a couple of comments (from some Stunning and Savvy people) asking if I added this sound in, or that I shouldn't edit in the sound effects of swords being drawn and sheathed - but the thing is, I didn't. I realised then that although amazing Titans of the Sword Community like Lindybeige, Tod Cutler, Matt Easton & a few other have been talking about swords not making the usual 'shing' sound that's heard in movies for years, that they have been missing a large part of this discussion - which is: that this needs to be discussed in the correct context, because there is more to this sound than a clean cut black and white answer. Speaking of context, I've used a section of Matt Easton's discussion on this topic as some reference points to historical examples that I don't have in my collection. His amazing videos on this topic can be found here: Swords, scabbards and the "schwing" sound • Swords, scabbards and the "schwing" sound.
