An in-depth video demonstrating how I edit my vinyl rips in Audacity from start to finish. I will show you some important settings to use, which effects to use to make your rips sound the best (and how and why to use them), how to speed up your vinyl editing workflow and some tips on exporting and cataloging your final files. 0:00 Intro and important settings 3:51 Step 1 - Editing and Cleaning Up a File 27:12 Step 2 - Workflow and Chains 36:10 Step 3 - Exporting and Labeling Software used: https://www.audacityteam.org https://www.mp3tag.de/en/ My set-up: Rega RP3 with subplatter upgrade (Groovetracer) Ortofon Bronze cartridge Music Hall pa2.2 phono stage Thanks for watching! *EDIT 1/21/21* After a couple of comments about the HP Filter/Rumble filter, I decided I would further describe how to reveal what your filter/EQ is actually doing to your file. I refer to this at about the 15 minute mark of the video. I have found that, if I use Audacity's HP filter, I would take out more audio than I was comfortable with and discovered that by doing my own steep curve EQ at around 25Hz (as shown in the video) it takes out basically just the rumble. To determine how the EQ (or any adjustment for that matter) is affecting your specific track, follow these instructions: 1. Duplicate your track so you have two exact copies (pre edit) 2. Apply the EQ/HP Filter to one of the tracks 3. Invert one of the two tracks (Effect, Invert) 4. Merge the two tracks (Tracks, Mix, Mix and render to new track) 5. The new track you created will reveal what the differences are between the two original tracks. In our example, the rumble or "audio" you removed. Hope that helps! *EDIT 3/6/21* Here is a link to the equalizer plugin I use in Audacity. (Not shown in this video) https://www.meldaproduction.com/MEqua...
