General Design Features for a Cannabis Production Room Professor DeBacco General Environmental Factors to Consider A large room does not need anything different than a small room, but some environmental aspects can be harder to achieve as the growing space gets larger. Basic Items to Consider… Lights Temperature Water Air Circulation Plant Density Ceiling Height Lights Knowing what your electrical circuits can handle may determine the total plants you can grow (or what you need to upgrade to). The type and wattage of lights you plan on using will impact the total coverage are per light. Temperature Heating and/or cooling a larger space can be a challenge. Remember the regulation of temperature needs to take into consideration all plant supporting equipment. Ex. Lights Water Will you be storing water or using it from a source? Can the floor support the weight of a water tank? 1 gallon of water weights about 8.33 pounds So a 250 gallon tank will weigh 2082.5 pounds. Does your water source supply the volume and pressure needed? This can depend on your chosen irrigation/fertilizing system Air Circulation As a single room increases in square feet moving air can be a continual challenge. Fans on the walls are a common solution, but more air movement may be necessary. This can mean overhead fans and/or fans with-in the grow space are needed. Plant Density Total plants per sq. ft. is partially dependent on pruning method but in general for a full sized plant plan to have 1 plant per 5 sq.ft. (or 2 plants per square meter). Ceiling Height This is an important factor to consider The height of the ceiling can impact the amount of air circulation and spacing of the plants and lights. Higher ceilings offer more flexibility for the grow space, but also make it more costly to enrich with carbon dioxide.
