Welcome to our five-month travel adventure. These next series of videos cover PART TWO of our trip, traveling by boat from Seattle, WA across the Pacific Ocean and around Australia. Today we travel to Suva, Fiji. Fiji Ports Terminal Port of Suva is Fiji's largest and busiest international port. Statue of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Ratu Sir Josefa Lala Sukuna was a Fijian chief, scholar, soldier, and statesman. He is regarded as the forerunner of the post-independence leadership of Fiji. Cakobau Statue Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau was a Fijian chief, monarch, and warlord who united part of Fiji's warring tribes. The Grand Pacific Hotel The Grand Pacific Hotel is a historic hotel built in 1914. Thurston Gardens Thurston Gardens are the botanical gardens of Fiji. They used to be known as the Suva Botanical Gardens but its name was changed in honor of the fifth Governor of Fiji, Sir John Bates Thurston. Flying Foxes (Bats) Bats are the only native mammals in Fiji. Fiji Museum The museum was founded in 1904 by a voluntary association - the Friends of Fiji Museum. The Fiji Museum holds the most important collection of Fijian artifacts in the world. Cathedral of the Sacred Heart The Cathedral of Suva, is the main ecclesiastical building of the Roman Catholic Church in the island nation of Fiji. Suva Cathedral was built in 1902 with sandstone brought from quarries near Sydney, Australia. Harbour Front Building The Art Deco-style Harbour Front Building was built in 1901 by an Australian partnership. Suva Municipal Market The market provides a place to sell and buy dry goods, seafood, vegetables and other primary agriculture produces. The Council provides table spaces for the vendors.
