19/1/23 I always fancied hiking up this wee hill to check out the views, and I finally managed it on a very cold January afternoon. I had checked out the route on Walk Highlands but on checking the map I spotted a quicker route from the layby on the A885 between Sandbank & Dunoon and right next to the pretty Loch Loskin. When I parked I was immediately taken by my stunning the Loch was, it was completely frozen over, so I popped over the fence and walked to the boathouse and grabbed some photos, amazing sight. From there it was back over the fence and walked back towards Sandbank and after 5 minutes I turned in left at Heronlea and followed the road for a short while before taking a left at the junction and from there I followed the vehicle track as it wound it's way gradually up the hill. I started to gain height and the views were opening up and I spotted a sign indicating the start of the path towards the summit, unfortunately there is now a tall deer fence blocking access to the route. So I continued up hill for a few minutes before noticing a gate on the fence. I went through this and then followed tracks leading back down the hill slightly to just above where I had seen the sign and joined the path that took me upto the summit. The views over the Cowal Hills and up & down the River Clyde and the Holy Loch, simply stunning. It hadn't taken me to long to get there, probs under an hour at a relaxed pace. I grabbed plenty of photos before the rain started, it was windy and quite cold on the summit so I didn't stay long. I followed the path down and took a left to see if there was a gate on the fence further down, there wasn't, so I had to retrace my steps back up to the gate, and then back onto the track and back to the car. A great wee hike with fantastic views. CARPE DIEM
