To get there is a 1km walk between the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre, following the perimeter of the lake, until you reach the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary. Along the walk, we stop by for views of Lake Te Anau before continuing to the bird sanctuary. Birds are kept here as part of breeding programs or rehabilitated util they are fit enough to be released back into the wild. We see all sorts of fascinating New Zealand bird species up close. This is one of the best places where to see New Zealand birds. Te Anau Bird Sanctuary is a New Zealand Bird Sanctuary run by the Department of Conservation of New Zealand.
