I wanted to make a video looking at the history of the universe, but a lot had happened so I've decided to turn it into a video series. This first video will look at just the first second. The accepted version of events is called the big bang, but even here there are lots of things we don’t know and lots of potential models to explain what happened. Our current models fit the observational evidence and the mathematical models that we have constructed. Let’s start at the beginning at time = 0. Already we are getting into strange territory here. The big bang didn’t happen at a point in space and time. The big bang happened everywhere. When we think of explosions, we think of them happening in a particular place, and this is a problem with the way that we tend to imagine the start of the universe. The big bang was an expansion of space itself. 0:00 Introduction 0:20 The Big Bang 1:30 The Planck Epoch 3:05 The Hartle-Hawking Model 3:40 The Grand Unification Epoch 5:10 Inflation 5:45 The Horizon Problem 7:21 The Inflaton Field 8:50 The Electroweak Epoch 10:20 The Quark Epoch 11:05 The Higgs Field and Mass 12:20 The Hadron Epoch 13:30 Subscribe Please! 13:44 Our Universe is Strange
