Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a week-long official visit, marking the first minister-level trip from the Taliban regime to India since 2021. The visit comes after the UN Security Council’s Taliban Sanctions Committee temporarily lifted Muttaqi’s travel ban to allow this diplomatic outreach. Upon arrival, Muttaqi was received by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, and will hold key meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The agenda includes discussions on regional security, trade, humanitarian cooperation, and the evolving situation in Afghanistan. Although India has not officially recognized the Taliban government, the visit signals a pragmatic recalibration in its Afghanistan policy.
