I know first hand the energy it takes to create art while recovering from narcissistic abuse in the industry. I was introduced to the phrase, “Feelings aren’t facts” in therapy to help me regulate my emotions when in the scenario of being gaslit. This was applicable in a variety of situations but experiencing it at work had been a prominent one for me especially with the additional layer of being queer. Navigating this industry I quickly learned that the more feelings I expressed, the more people with narcissistic tendencies would redirect them as a way to get me to second guess my decisions – when in some realities, these personality types could be threatened by the magnitude of a visionary they could never embody. I encourage you to listen to this song and read the lyrics in honor of Juneteenth and onward whether you’re a black artist or not.
