“Ave verum corpus” - Stephanie Martin Sung by the Choir of Trinity Wall Street, New York City Director of Music: Julian Wachner; Associate Organist: Janet Yieh Recorded July 2021 and presented by Amplify Female Composers in the Fall Female Composer Fridays series, coordinated by Carolyn Craig and Janet Yieh. Stephanie Martin is a Canadian composer, conductor, and associate professor of music at York University in Toronto, where she teaches music history, performance, harpsichord, and organ. Martin founded the women’s medieval ensemble Schola Magdalena, and can be heard as a harpsichordist and organist on the Naxos, Marquis, and Dorian labels. Her conducting awards include the Leslie Bell Prize for Choral Conducting, and her composition awards include First Prizes in the Exultate Chamber Singers’ Composition Competition (2009) and the Association of Anglican Musicians Composer’s Competition (2010). Her works are published by Cypress Choral Music, as this one is, and by Selah. This is a beautiful, simple four-part choral piece that brings the reverence and poignancy of this 13th-century text into the modern day. “Ave verum corpus” was written for Martin’s own former choir at Saint Mary Magdalene in Toronto. @StephanieMartinMusic @cypresschoralmusic #stephaniemartin #amplifyfemalecomposers #femalecomposerfridays
