This is a rerelease of a video originally uploaded on January 3, 2024, now in 4K The kite in this video represents an interesting full circle moment for me. First off and before we dive into history, The 90Nine which is our subject today and the 90Three, which I also flew while I was at The LBI Fly International Kite Festival but I didn't film with, are wonderful. Instantly approachable and completely capable. The fact that you can download the plans and make one for your self is icing on the cake. More to the point that the creativity and ingenuity of the community has created larger and smaller versions so that there is a version of this most prolific of open source freestylers to fit anyone's tastes is delightful. Here we have the 90Nine, roughly the size of the kite it descends from at 2.34m, the 90Nine fits in the ballet size sweet spot for me and with supreme balance between tricks and precision it fits into the mold well. The 90 family of kite descends from the Vendetta by Shawn Tinkham. This is the full circle point for me. I remember when Shawn and his wife Patty showed up to our local fly with his first Vipers, the precursor to the Vendetta. Shawn would go own to design several excellent sport kites including the Vendetta, Tantrum and Venom.
