Hi everyone! Today I have created a small vintage junk journal pocket book with which I also created a romantic back story. You can read it below! Raised in cold St. Petersburg, she has always felt the pull of distant places, particularly Paris—the city of light, art, & freedom. Everything she has read about Paris paint it as a haven for artists & dreamers, a place where the old world gives way to the new. With a heart full of hope & excitement, Elena boards a train bound for Paris, leaving behind Russia for France. Tucked into her small suitcase is a precious pocket book, a little worn at the edges, filled with memories of her life in Russia. As the train crosses into France, Elena's mind is filled with thoughts of what lies ahead. She imagines the artists of Montmartre, the musicians in the cafes, the bustling streets lined with painters & writers. She doesn’t yet know the city, but she already feels as though she belongs. When she finally arrives in Paris, the air is electric, full of possibility, even amidst the tension of the war. Elena feels a strange mix of awe and fear as she steps off the train into the crowded station. It’s overwhelming, but also intoxicating, and she is eager to make her mark in this city that feels so different from her world back home. In the days that follow, Elena begins collecting new memories. There’s an advertisement for a Parisian photographer she passes on her walks through the city—a man who captures the essence of bohemian life with his camera. She wonders if one day she will be brave enough to sit for him. One evening in Montmartre, she meets a talented musician in one of the many cafes. The next day, he offers her a flower during a romantic stroll. She presses it carefully in her pocket book, alongside an advertisement for travel suitcases & love letters. She also keeps a dry cleaning receipt from a shop on the Rue des Martyrs, a place she visited after spilling wine on her only good dress at a crowded artist’s gathering. She laughs at the memory now, but at the time, she had felt every bit the outsider. The pocket book begins to reflect her dual existence—snapshots of the life she left behind in Russia, and new fragments of her adventure in Paris. Paris slowly becomes her home & with each passing day, the city leaves its mark on her. With every new memento she adds to her pocket book, Elena feels her two worlds—the one she left behind and the one she is creating—blending together, shaping her future. One day, she will look back at this book, and it will tell the story of a girl who was once uncertain, traveling alone to an unknown city.
