In this video, our gypsy jazz trio performs the classic swing tune “Bei Mir Bist Du Schön.” With driving rhythm guitar, lyrical lead lines, and the unmistakable groove of gypsy jazz, we bring our own interpretation to this timeless standard inspired by the style of Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club tradition. “Bei Mir Bist Du Schön” (Yiddish: בײַ מיר ביסטו שיין, meaning “To Me, You’re Beautiful”) was originally written in 1932 by composer Sholom Secunda with lyrics by Jacob Jacobs for a Yiddish musical titled I Would If I Could. The song later became an international hit in 1937 when the Andrews Sisters recorded their famous swing version, helping turn it into one of the most recognizable jazz standards of the era.
