Dawn Walk in Quiet Water Town | Gujo-Hachiman, Japan

A quiet early morning walk from dawn through sunrise along the flowing canals and rivers of Gujo Hachiman, a traditional castle town in Gifu, Japan. Gujo is a beautiful town located where the Nagara and Yoshida rivers meet. It also has many springs, canals, and water lanes amid its historic streets. This morning we walk a loop from the hill overlooking the town, down through the neighborhoods and along the rivers, then back up to the hilltop castle. The town is well known for its Gujo Odori (郡上踊り祭), a summer dance festival that in 2022 was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. I had a chance to walk through the night before, so I added a few minutes of dance and music for a taste of the event. I hope you enjoy this morning walk through a beautiful small town.
