For those who have undergone this surgery, the tips and advice in this video will help you understand how to safely recover and properly care for your eyes after surgery. Right after surgery, your doctor will likely apply a bandage and pressure patch to the area around your eye, to reduce swelling and help it heal. With the help of your doctor, you’ll be able to determine when it’s safe to remove this. Be aware, it may take up to two weeks for the swelling to fully subside. During the healing process, it’s important to keep your eye area clean, practice good hygiene, and follow doctor’s instructions. Most patients are instructed to rinse the eyes with a solution made of half warm water and half saline solution several times a day. Additionally, you may want to avoid activities that could result in infection, such as swimming and washing your face with hot water. It’s also important to keep the area around the eye dry by using a clean towel or cotton swab. For the first few days after surgery, it’s important to sleep with your head elevated to ensure the drainage of the eye is not blocked. Be sure to avoid rubbing your eyes, as this could potentially disrupt the healing process.
