Whether you’re just getting started with your first pet snake or you've kept reptiles for a while, avoiding these errors is key to a healthy and happy serpent. 🐍✨ 🧠 Let’s talk misinformation. Tip #1 is a big one: relying solely on social media for snake care can lead you down the wrong path. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram are full of outdated or just plain wrong advice. Always back up what you hear with scientific research or trusted care guides from experienced keepers. 📚 👋 Tip #2: don’t handle your snake right away! New snakes need time to settle. Constant handling can cause stress and even health issues. And on top of that, not hook training from the start (tip #3) can lead to confusion, stress, or even bites. Get your snake used to the hook and establish boundaries early on! 🐍🪝 🌿 Tip #4 is all about the setup: not providing enough clutter and hides makes snakes feel exposed and vulnerable. Even the most outgoing snakes need cover to feel secure. Combine that with too small of an enclosure (tip #5), and you’re setting yourself up for a stressed-out snake. 📦 🍽️ A controversial one at #6: feeding outside the enclosure. While it might seem like a good idea, it can actually cause more problems than it solves — like regurge from stress or unnecessary risk during handling. Feed inside their home where they feel safe! 🐁 🧪 Tip #7 is huge for keepers with multiple animals: not quarantining new reptiles can expose your whole collection to mites, parasites, or worse. A proper quarantine period is a must. 🚫🦠 🔥 Tip #8: choosing the wrong heat sources. Heat mats with no thermostat? Dangerous. Overhead heat with no gradient? Not ideal. Your snake’s survival depends on safe, regulated temps. 🌡️ 🌙 And don’t forget the day and night cycle (tip #9)! Some snakes rely on subtle light cues for natural rhythms. Keeping lights on 24/7 or using the wrong kind of bulbs can mess with their behaviour and stress them out. ☀️🌑 🚫 Finally, tip #10: don’t choose a snake just because it’s labeled “beginner.” Every snake has individual needs. Corn snakes, ball pythons, rosy boas — they’re great, but only if you’re prepared. Match the animal to your lifestyle and knowledge, not just what’s trendy. 🐍❤️ 💬 Let me know in the comments — have you made any of these mistakes?
