During August 2021 a very interesting ruby rich area was exposed on block 208-8 at the Aappaluttoq ruby mine in Greenland. This reaction zone between what the mine geologists call a "sapphirine geddrite" body and a gneiss was rich in light pink to deep red rubies. Rubies were associated mainly with white feldspar, greenish mica and amphibole and sometimes also with blue cordierite. Interestingly this area produced several kilos of fine material that became after acid cleaning and heat treatment fine beads, cabochons or faceted stones. The geologist working at the mine decided also to select few specimens that will be kept intact for future generations of collectors to study and enjoy.
