Hello 😊 Here’s my transcription of the Laughing by The Guess Who. This song comes from their 1969 album Canned Wheat. The bass player on this track was Jim Kale. You can find the transcription on Muzento under the Intermediate Songs category. Another song from The Guess Who that I’m more than happy to do 😊 At first, I practiced this song using very few open strings. I was mostly playing around the 5th to 9th frets. Then I saw a live performance on the The Vault from CBC. Near the end of the song, I could clearly see that he's playing down in first position and using open strings. I think playing it in that position gives the bass line more of an “open” sound. It looks a little strange to see so many open strings in the TAB, but with some right and left hand muting, it actually feels quite natural. Here’s the link for the live performance. • Pop-up Video: The Guess Who perform 'Laugh... Randy Bachman pulls the tempo back ever so slightly just before going into the second verse. It makes me wonder if they talked about that ahead of time, or if it just happened in the recording and everyone followed along. It also makes me wonder if they intentionally pushed the tempo in the choruses, or if that was another one of those natural, in the moment things. The lyric he came up with in the chorus, “you put the hurt on me,” really sounds ahead of its time to me. It feels like a modern way of saying “you hurt me,” yet here it is in a song from 1969. Way to go, Burton! 😊 This is a really nice song with a good, solid bass line. Read it down and play it like you mean it 😊 I hope you enjoy it 😊 Don’t forget to like and subscribe, and thanks for watching 🙏 -------------- If you appreciate what I do and or find it helpful, I hope you might consider supporting me through the following: ** Signup to the mailing list and get notified every time there's a new transcription! https://gregstranscripts.com/#subscribe Muzento - https://www.muzento.com Patreon - / gregfairweather or you can make a donation through PayPal at - https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted... ------------------- Copyright Disclaimer: Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for fair use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
