His Majesty's Sound System (1975 -1982) - interview held at the residence of Riley (AKA 'Friar') on 20th Oct. 2024 in Southampton, UK….. His Majesty's Sound were formed in 1975 in the Derby Road area of Southampton & were one of the city's first Reggae sound systems to be run by the 2nd generation of Afro Caribbean youths in the area.... Taking part were : Riley (AKA 'Friar') - one of the founding members & the main micman for His Majesty's Sound & also ‘Smiley’ (Wayne Salmon) - manager and founder member of Southampton's Maka Foundation Sound System. Smiley was inspired by and a follower of His Majesty's Sound System for a few years - before forming his own Reggae sound system (Maka Foundation Sound) later in 1979 - who are still playing today & celebrating their 45th anniversary this year ...
