Hello everyone. Welcome back to the channel and another episode in the Land Rover Series 3 rebuild. Things are moving on nicely with the safari roof and in this video I fit the Alpine windows and fix the outer skin to the roof with the 5mm diameter aluminium rivets. It is an exciting moment for me (and the project) as we get closer to actually installing the new roof. As you will see, the hardest part of this entire roof project has been installing the seals around the Alpine windows. Now I know what all the hype is about! I don’t really show it in the film, but it is not as easy as just lining the hole in the metal and sliding in the glass, oh no. The glass is slightly smaller than it needs to be (in my opinion) and the rubber does not quite provide enough coverage along the glass edges if the seal is fitting snugly around the inside edge of the window gap. To get mine to fit properly I had to space the seals slightly in from the metal edge in order to grip the glass. That is why when I fitting the final rubber bead, there was a small gap at the join. God only knows how you avoid that, probably only if you have done it a hundred times. I didn’t really want to have to seal the new seal with sealant but I may have to (is that even correct English?) Anyway, one other thing. When I purchased the new sealing strip I bought it from the role, rather than cut to length from the internet. I could only find pre-cut kits on eBay, but my good friends at Dunsfold Land Rovers came to the rescue and provided me with a good quality strip off the role. Aside from that, I spent some time tracing and fixing the electrical gremlins, and along with your helpful tips I managed to get everything working at the front end. It’s great to see the new LHD headlights fully working and the hazard lights too. I still have a very rough/rich running engine which I have started to diagnose, but more of that in another video. There are also issues with the fitment of the new stainless steel exhaust system to the original manifold so another little project there that needs sorting. It’s a sunny start the weekend in Dresden today, so if all goes well I will be popping up the garage later on to see what’s what. If you are doing the same as me (or even just thinking about it) have fun and enjoy the weekend. As always, I hope you enjoy the video and thanks again for all your support. PS, after almost 50 videos on this project, I have just discovered the free music library on Youtube to lighten up the time-laps videos. I hope its an improvement... it's a pity I can't go back over my uploaded video and add music. You live and learn.
