Lecture by Brandon R. Ro and Xavier Parareda at the 5th International Conference on Traditional Building, Architecture, and Urbanism, held in Úbeda, Jaén, on November 15, 16, and 17, 2024. "Traditional architecture, especially classical and vernacular forms, often exhibits fractal qualities that enhance both its aesthetic appeal and its ability to engage the human eye. The objective is to explore whether the complexity and ornamentation found in traditional designs have measurable impacts on how people unconsciously perceive and visually engage with buildings. By analyzing a series of 28 building facades generated through artificial intelligence, we calculated the fractal dimension of each structure using the box-counting method. Unconscious visual attention was then predicted using eye-tracking emulation software to determine which fractal qualities capture the most attention". The Conference was organized by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation in collaboration with the Úbeda City Council, INTBAU Spain, INTBAU Portugal, the Fundação Serra Henriques, the Casa Ducal de Medinaceli Foundation, the Úbeda Artisans Association, the Huerta de San Antonio Foundation, the Casa de Las Torres School of Arts, and the Renaissance Studies Center of Úbeda.
