King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg started in the office as an intern in 1984, was hired as a deputy prosecuting attorney in 1985, and in 1990 was appointed Chief of Staff by then-Prosecuting Attorney Norm Maleng. Satterberg was first elected in 2007 and overall was elected to four terms. He announced on Jan. 7, 2022 that he would retire on Dec. 31, 2022 at the end of his 15th year as King County Prosecuting Attorney and his 37th year with the office. “I have 358 days left in my term,” he said in his Jan. 7 announcement. “I am determined to finish well. Over the next 12 months we will cement the gains and the innovations and adaptations from the last 15 years. We’ll also look for the positive lessons that we have learned during this time of COVID.”
