Amfleet Passenger Train Car 50th Anniversary

In 1975, the first Amfleet type passenger cars rolled off the assembly line at the Budd passenger car manufacturing plant in Philadelphia and entered service on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. These corrugated tube shaped passenger cars were based on a self propelled electric powered car known as the Metroliner and were the first new passenger cars purchased by Amtrak. The Amfleet proved to be a huge success, replacing many worn out and difficult to maintain cars that Amtrak had inherited from other railroads when it began operations in May of 1971. To celebrate 50 years of Amtrak's trusty Amfleet passenger cars, we are going to take a look at every single train I've filmed using Amfleets. We'll start with trains that regularly use the Amfleet I car followed by those that use the Amfleet II.
