Paquita is a classical ballet set in Spain. It tells the story of a young Romani girl named Paquita who discovers she is actually of noble birth. She falls in love with a French officer named Lucien, but their love faces challenges because of their different social classes. In the end, Paquita learns her true identity, and she and Lucien are able to be together. Petipa is especially known for adding the famous Grand Pas Classique, which is full of difficult ballet technique, turns, jumps, and variations. Today, many ballet schools perform the Paquita variations because they show strong classical technique and elegance.
