AITA For Not Covering My Friend's Meal When She Ordered More? She Then Even Invited Me To... ----- AITA For Not Covering My Friend's Meal When She Ordered More? She Then Even Invited Me To A Bachelorette Party And After It Was Over Asked Me To Pay For The Food ----- After midterms, I went out to eat with some friends. I ordered something small to stay within budget, but one friend, Jessica, ordered a full meal with drinks and dessert. When the check came, she suddenly insisted we split it evenly. I refused and only paid for what I ate. She got passive-aggressive afterward and told others I embarrassed her. A week later, she invited me out for sushi and said it was her treat. I went, but again, she ordered a lot and tried to split the $84 bill. When I reminded her she’d said it was her treat, she laughed and said she meant we were "treating ourselves." I paid for my own meal and left, feeling tricked. Then she invited me to her place for a chill “girls’ night in,” promised no checks were involved, and cooked pasta with wine. It was actually nice—until I was leaving and she asked me to Venmo her $25 for the groceries. I reminded her she invited me and that I brought dessert, but she got defensive. I left without paying. That night, she sent a Venmo request. I declined. Weeks later, Rachel, a mutual friend, said Jessica wanted to talk. We met at a café, and Jessica admitted she was used to always splitting things with her high school friends. She also confessed she’d recently lost her job and was too embarrassed to say anything, so she was hoping others would quietly cover the extra cost when they went out. I told her I was sorry she felt like she couldn’t be honest, but it wasn’t okay to manipulate friends like that. She apologized and promised to stop inviting people out unless she could afford it. We haven’t hung out one-on-one since, but we’re civil now—and I’m fine with that. ----- #redditfamily #reddit #familyrelationships #redditstories
