Out of all of the strong cigars that I smoked in 2024, few came close to impressing me quite like El Borracho by Dapper Cigar Co. Not just because it's smoother than a swingin' set of hinges on a Klaro Military Humidor, or as blocky as a Maxwell Cigar Travel Case, but because it has never once left me wanting. I could talk all night long about the tangy notes of tangerine dipped in bitter-sweet dark chocolate that I detect, or the way black and red licorice roll about on the tongue, but I think by now you might already know everything there is to note about this blend. Why would I say such a thing? Because ya'll have been buying the ever-loving hell out of this cigar the moment we started stocking it. So instead of yammering on about this full-bodied, box-pressed blend, which directly translated means, "The Drunkard," allow me to leave you with a few pieces of information that you might not know. 🍂It may look like a maduro, but the San Andrés wrapper that covers this blend is actually a natural leaf, and it tends to show cigar tooth rather well. 🧵The binder is an habano rosado varietal, and comes courtesy of none other than farms owned by Oliva Tobacco Co. The same company that grows the filler blend for this smoke, are sourced from three of Nicaragua's greatest growing regions. 💸El Borracho was engineered to both mimic and pay tribute to the mighty Padron 1964. Apparently Dapper's company founder and master blender, Ian Reith, create the cigar as a financially feasible alternative to his insatiable craving for this premium cigar blend. 🍻We caught up with Mr. Reith at PCA 2024 for a quick little Q&A session about this bold, boxy, boozy little blend of his, and we have the video footage to prove it.
